1. Bill Gates(28/10/1955)
2. Elon Musk(28/6/1971)
The Ten Gods: Direct Officer and Seven Killings
Previously, we talked about Officer Stars (官杀) in the Ten Gods of BaZi. They represent the Five Elements that control me.
For example, if my Day Master is Wood, the element that controls me is Metal, because an axe can cut down a large tree.
Therefore, Officer Stars represent the forces that regulate and control me. They also represent rules, order, management, discipline, restriction, and authority.
For a woman, Officer Stars can also represent her husband or lover, because from the traditional Yin-Yang and Five Elements perspective, they represent the energy of the opposite polarity that controls her.
The Direct Officer (正官) is a control between opposite Yin-Yang polarities, while the Seven Killings (七杀) is a control between the same Yin-Yang polarity.
Although both represent an element that controls me, their character and the way their energy is expressed are very different.
⸻
Direct Officer (正官) Structure
If Seven Killings is like a general, then Direct Officer is more like a manager or civil official.
The most important qualities of Direct Officer can be summed up in four words:
Rules and Order.
People with a strong Direct Officer structure generally respect rules and order. They tend to be steady, responsible and reliable, and they usually do not like doing things that are out of line.
They often give people the impression of being a good, decent and well-mannered person.
They have a strong sense of responsibility, can distinguish right from wrong, and understand what should and should not be done.
Because of this, people with a strong Direct Officer influence often have good management abilities and are more likely to gain the trust and recognition of others.
They are well suited to positions such as supervisors, managers, senior administrators, and even civil servants.
They tend to conduct themselves properly, know their responsibilities, have a stable character, and are often able to lead by example.
However, when Direct Officer becomes too strong, it can also create problems.
Because they place so much importance on rules and are very concerned about how others see them, they can easily make life difficult for themselves.
Sometimes, they may have a completely different thought in their hearts, but because they keep thinking:
“What will other people think of me?”
they suppress their true feelings and ideas.
So, people with a strong Direct Officer influence can sometimes be described as:
They live a respectable life, but they may not always feel free inside.
They usually think carefully before taking action and are not reckless or impulsive.
Of course, this is a strength. They are stable and less likely to make careless decisions.
But the weakness is that they can become too conservative.
Because they are afraid of failure, they may sometimes become indecisive. Because they follow rules too strictly, they may not know how to adapt. Over time, this can make them rather rigid.
When an opportunity comes, they may also think too much and end up missing the best moment to act.
Therefore, the greatest strength of Direct Officer is:
Stability.
And its greatest weakness can also be:
Too much stability.
Living a steady and peaceful life is certainly a good thing. But if a person always chooses the familiar path, it becomes difficult to achieve a major breakthrough.
Especially when the world around us is constantly changing, being too attached to old ways can eventually become a limitation.
People with strong Direct Officer energy also tend to care about face, dignity, status, position, and how others evaluate them.
So sometimes, it is not that they lack ability. Rather, they care too much about winning and losing, and too much about what others think of them, which prevents them from moving forward.
Therefore, the truly positive expression of Direct Officer is not to live without rules, but to:
Know how to follow the rules, while also knowing when to adapt.
⸻
Seven Killings (七杀) Structure
If Direct Officer represents rules and order, then Seven Killings represents:
Courage, initiative, competition, breakthrough, and pioneering spirit.
If Direct Officer is a manager or civil official, then Seven Killings is like a general.
A general faces the battlefield.
On a battlefield, there is not always time to think things through slowly. Many situations require you to make a decision immediately and take action immediately.
Therefore, people with strong Seven Killings energy tend to have strong initiative and execution. They are direct, decisive, and dislike dragging things out. They often act quickly and decisively.
They are competitive, dislike losing, have a strong desire to win, and are not afraid of difficulties.
Seven Killings also represents pressure.
But pressure is not necessarily a bad thing.
Very often, it is precisely pressure that forces a person to grow.
That is why people with strong Seven Killings energy can often perform even better when facing intense competition and difficult circumstances.
When others see something as difficult, they may instead think:
“Maybe this is something I should challenge.”
This is the spirit of Seven Killings.
Seven Killings is like an eagle charging forward—brave, ambitious, and willing to break through an existing situation.
Therefore, people with strong Seven Killings energy often have a strong pioneering spirit and innovative thinking.
They do not like simply repeating old methods. Instead, they prefer to find ways to create a new situation and open up a new path.
However, Seven Killings is also a double-edged sword.
Because they have high expectations of themselves, they may also have high expectations of others. As a result, they can sometimes put pressure on the people around them.
Their personality can also be quite direct and their temper impatient. They do not like beating around the bush. Once they have decided to do something, even if the road ahead is extremely difficult, they may continue all the way to the end.
When this quality is used well, it becomes:
Courage, determination, responsibility, and the ability to keep one’s word.
But when it is not used well, it can become:
Being too dominant, too impulsive, too concerned about pride, and too likely to create enemies.
People with strong Seven Killings energy can also develop a mindset of:
“I must win.”
Because of this, they may keep pushing forward to achieve their goals and, if not properly balanced, may even become inclined to use power to pressure others.
But when this powerful energy is directed in the right way, they can become people with tremendous execution ability and leadership.
Therefore, Seven Killings is particularly suitable for careers that require courage, decisiveness, competition, and strong action.
For example, the military, police, management, entrepreneurship, and industries that require someone to create a new path or break new ground.
If Direct Officer represents:
Protecting and maintaining an established order,
then Seven Killings represents:
Having the courage to break through the old situation and create a new order.
This is the greatest difference between Direct Officer and Seven Killings.
⸻
Direct Officer vs. Seven Killings
So, we can understand them simply like this:
Direct Officer — follows the rules;
Seven Killings — breaks through the existing situation.
Direct Officer — stability;
Seven Killings — breakthrough.
Direct Officer — responsibility;
Seven Killings — courage and determination.
Direct Officer is like a manager or civil official;
Seven Killings is like a general.
Finally, I would also like to share the BaZi charts of a few well-known people for everyone’s reference.
Because the birth-time information of some famous people may not be completely reliable, when we do not have an accurate birth time, we can only use their year, month and day—the six characters of the three pillars—as a reference. We should not treat this as a complete BaZi chart for detailed analysis.
Please also take these examples together with what I have written previously, as well as the other Ten Gods that I will continue to share in the future.
1. Bill Gates — 28 October 1955
Seven Killings Structure
2. Elon Musk — 28 June 1971
Hurting Officer + Seven Killings Structure
From these examples, we can also see that:
Different Ten Gods can create different personalities and different ways of doing things.
And these different personalities can lead people onto very different paths in life.
Therefore, learning BaZi is not simply about saying that a particular Ten God is “good” or “bad.”
What truly matters is:
What kind of energy do you have, and how do you use that energy in the right way?
That is what makes BaZi truly fascinating
