水若清,身就清;
浮躁时,学水沉淀,杂念自然消;
Why Do All Sages Say "Water" is Best?
Today, let's discuss:
Why do Confucius, Laozi, Buddha, and even Feng
Shui all say that "water" is best?
In Chapter 8 of the Tao Te Ching, Laozi said:
"The highest goodness is like water.
Water greatly benefits all things without contention."
This means the best virtue is like water.
Water silently nourishes all things, never
competing with anyone,
yet it flows everywhere, benefiting all
beings.
Water resides in the lowest places,
yet achieves the highest value.
If one can be like water—humble, tolerant, and
accommodating—they will naturally earn genuine respect.
Water turns into vapor when heated and ice
when cooled, remaining calm at normal temperatures.
Its external form changes with the
environment,
but its essence, H₂O, remains unchanged.
This teaches us to be adaptable externally
while坚守本心 (holding firm to our core principles).
Buddha also said, "A compassionate heart
is like water."
Water can nourish life, cleanse impurities,
and bring coolness and tranquility.
Water possesses both softness and immense
power.
It can float a boat or capsize it,
gently包容 (embrace) or break
through all obstacles.
In Feng Shui, there is a saying:
"Mountains govern people, water governs
wealth."
Water represents wealth, flow, and vitality.
Look at the world's four great ancient
civilizations—
the Yellow River, Indus River, and Nile River
civilizations—all originated by "water."
Modern major cities like
Singapore, Hong Kong, and New York are also
almost always located near water.
Because where there is water, there is
prosperity and vitality.
Even Confucius said, "The wise find joy
in water."
Because water adapts to its environment, can
be both strong and soft, advancing and retreating as needed.
It has a direction but is not rigid about its
path.
It flows around mountains, eventually reaching
the sea.
If one can be like water,
they can go far and live steadily in this
complex world.
Did you know? Our bodies are 70% water.
You are walking Feng Shui!
If water is clear, the body is clear;
if the heart is calm, the energy flows
smoothly.
When restless, learn from water to settle, and
distractions will naturally dissipate;
when facing obstacles, learn from water to
flow around them, ultimately reaching the sea without deviating from the goal.
So, whether you study Feng Shui, practice
Buddhism, or aspire to be a Confucian gentleman,
learn the wisdom of water.
I am Master Lee from Penang Feng Shui.
May everyone:
Have a heart as calm as still water, energy as
vast as a long river, and wealth flowing like a continuous stream.
